I have a 1993 740i (e32 model) BMW. The way this system is "supposed" to work is to measure when you need an oil change based on driving habits, mileage driven, and I'm assuming oil viscosity because there is a sensor. Five green lights are illuminated right after an oil change. After all the lights go out the yellow light comes on saying to get an oil change. If I go too far past the limit the red light will come on. Anyways, I changed my oil at 127,212 miles. I'm using mobil 1 extended performance 15w-50. According to Mobil 1, it guarantees oil life to 15,000 miles. My mileage is at 138,283. As you can see I'm getting pretty close to an oil change, but only two of the lights have gone out on the indicator. Is it a better idea to trust the indicator or just drive the car to 15,000 miles?

always and i mean always change ur oil from 3-5k miles reguardless for better perfromance

I'd forget about the service lights and change over to http://www.mobilone.com synthetic oil. Change the oil and filter every 8,000 miles and your engine will last forever.

I would go by the oil label just to be safe. Mobil is not going to guarantee there product if something screws up at 16,000. Better safe then sorry.
