can i use another computer recover dvd on my acer?

i have window 7 installed on my computer i wanna delete it and put on window xp(window 7 uses 3 times the bandwidth compare to xp and i have a bandwidth cap) when i put in window xp 2005 media center edition. it says that the dvd isn't compatible with my product model. if it wipe my HDD entirely will it let me install window xp?
