Can I write off my Laptop purchase since it's for College and my future job?

I will be buying a new laptop in a couple of weeks. I need it for my college degree (computer systems security) and will be using it for the next two years of school.

I was told I could possibly write it off on my taxes and get all the money back next year when I file.

I am not familiar how writing things off for taxes works. Do you get all the money you write off back, a percentage?

Is it possible to write off the computer purchase?

No. It would be only if you used it only in your own business, one which was your main source of income. It would be deductible only if you used it entirely or business purposes.
