I work in a call center and for the most part it's a great job and a very positive work environment. Of course, we have monthly goals and metrics on which we are evaluated. I am normally a top performer on these metrics; however, whenever I take any approved, earned PTO days, my numbers drop considerably. This is because leadership in my department has decreed that vacation days count as 0 performance days. In other words, they look at a vacation day the same way they'd look at a day where I sat at my desk all day doing absolutely nothing!
It is impossible to "make up" entire missed days of work (believe me, I've tried). It's so frustrating to miss my metrics any time I take time off. I don't feel it's an accurate reflection of my performance to count approved vacation time against me. I also feel that I'm being penalized for using a benefit my workplace has provided to me and encouraged me to use. Is it really HR-legal for them to do this? It wouldn't fly for them to count my use of health insurance benefits against my performance goals... would it? So how can they use vacation time against me this way?
