Can my work request a meeting to discuss my absence when I am signed off with stress?

I have been the victim of harassment at work by my manager, I followed the grievance procedure and this resulted in my boss being given a written warning last week. As a result of this whole episode my GP has signed me off work for 2 weeks with stress. My boss now has emailed me saying he's arranged a meeting to 'discuss issues to perhaps aid my recovery' but I don't feel like I want any contact from the company and want to be left alone to recover. Have I any rights here, do I have rights not to attend or to be contacted my the company whilst I am off work?

Yes your company has a right to ask for a meeting, it was standard procedure where I worked, but you don't have to deal with your boss, the meeting should be with someone from your companies HR department.

You should also be able to insist on a union rep/workmate being there in the meeting.

Your Boss is worried, but not about you, he is worried about his own position now and I suspect he wants to get to you, and twist your story, before you get back to work and see higher bosses, if I were you I would ignore his e-mails and have your stress free break on order from your Doc.btw there is no law to say you have to answer mail!

Yes your boss can request that you attend a meeting to discuss your absence when you are signed off with stress. Your position can also be eliminated if you ignore your boss and fail to attend the meeting. You are an employee and have very few rights. While you are absent someone else is doing your job and your boss is seeing how well they can function without you. Refusing contact and ignoring your manager over a 2 week period will be a very clear sign that you do not want to improve the situation or keep your job. This whole situation could backfire on you if you do what you want.
