Can Slice of Life anime have fantasy and sci fi?

I say yes. In AnoHana he sees a girl that's dead, who actually died 10 years in the past. And it's considered a Slice of Life anime. But it depends on if you consider that realistic or not (:

"Slice of life" in itself implies that the show is about exactly that - a "slice" of life that the viewer can relate to, and hence why many slice-of-life series don't always include fantasy/sci-fi.

Of course, a fantasy or sci-fi anime can definitely have slice-of-life elements (e.g. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun), since oftentimes the situations we see in slice-of-life anime can occur in any context, not just in (for example) a high school setting.

There are some slice of life anime that belong to either of those indeed.
For example, Aria The Animation/Natural/Origination (different name per season) has a certain Sci-fi element in it, as the location is a future terraformed Mars. People travel there from Earth (which is now called Man-Home) in space-shuttles. While in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Air, Clannad, Sola for example, there are some supernatural events. Clannad and Air doesn't have that much, but Sola and Haruhi series has a lot.
