Can some smokers handle smoking better than others?

I seem to get sick a lot from smoking: coughing... lungs hurt, clearing thoat all the time. ect. Sometimes Im fine and can smoke without problem. But sometimes it becomes difficult.
But I know so many people who smoke and dont have any problems. Do I have more sensitive lungs, or somthing?
YES YES I KNOW SMOKINGS BAD....
