Can St. Patrick's Day be made into a national holiday?

I'm celebrating the day myself by drinking Guinness and making a few Irish dishes....but, it's more to celebrate Celtic roots, not some guy who Catholics made legends about.
Wouldn't that go against the seperation of church and state idea that we've used several times in the past?
Sorry everyone-I didn't mean that's what I want-I heard there was a proposal going around on the 'net and was curious if it would be legal.

Doesn't traditional Irish cusine consist of putting everything into a pot and boiling it for 10 hours. The meal is done when you can eat it through a straw.

Having been close enough to hear four IRA bombs and feel one of them, my thoughts about celebrating things Irish are not un-mixed.

They came closer than that on one occasion: perfect location, timing off by 24 hours.
