Can St. Patrick's Day be made into a national holiday?

I'm celebrating the day myself by drinking Guinness and making a few Irish dishes....but, it's more to celebrate Celtic roots, not some guy who Catholics made legends about.
Wouldn't that go against the seperation of church and state idea that we've used several times in the past?
I meant I heard there was a proposal on the 'net-I' not asking anyone to change their schedule :-)

Hmmm.. I love my Irish roots but yeah, I think it might be a unfair to our fellow Americans to make it a holiday. Not just for religous reasons but for ethnic ones. I know we make a big group but then the Germans, English, Italians and definately the Mexicans etc. would need their own holiday. It would go on and on. So lets keep on celebrating St Paddys, Cinco De Mayo, and Octoberfest without government involvement.
