can using illegal antivirus key downladed from torrents harm your computer?

I recently used illegal keys to reactivate the license of my anti virus trial version. I got a message that you are using an illegal key and you will not receive updates but i updated it and i got an update but the next time i started my pc my motherboard was not working do you think the company uploaded some virus into my pc to spoil it as i was using an illegal key.
 
most likely no. The torrent itself must have had a virus in it and that made your computer from running. Never use any torrents because half the time they contain viruses. Use avast! 4 HOME edition and run a scan. It will most likely catch the virus and remove it. It has everything that a paid antivirus would have except a firewall.
