Can we relate our dreams with future or past that we have not seen?

Can we relate our dreams with future or past that we have not seen or experienced but which relates to us? I mean if there is something happened in the past relating to me but i have not personally experienced it or something which is going to happen in future that naturally i am not aware of..but still can dreams indicate such things?
Personally i don't experience dreams quite often..rather quite rarely but is there anything fruitful in the thought?
