Can you argue religion in a courtroom setting?

Forgive me if my question isn't clear. What I mean is, may you use religion as evidence in court? For example, in a case against a same-sex couple, may you use the Bible to argue your case? I'm not sure, but I think there is a law seperating religion and law.

I'm reading Sing You Home, so I'm curious.
