Can you be sent to a mental hospital if your doctor find you do recreation drugs?

My friend said that if my psychiatrist find out I do any drugs (like weed or triple C's [cough pills]) then they can lock me up for 3 days in a mental hospital because they did that to him. I was wondering if this was true or not (I'm not addicted or insane or anything).
