Can you buy an under cabinet mount Range Hood that vents out to the side

directly from the hood? We have an old house that has never had a range hood. We don't want a vent-less system. To save on space we'd like to vent directly from the side of a hood out to the side of our house.

I've looked with no success for a range hood that comes ready to be side vented. I can only find rear or top vented units.

Can a vent hood be modified by turning the position of the fan unit and making a hole for the venting to be shunted off to the side or are we stuck with buying a top vent unit and elbow piecing through the cabinets?

I can't think of any reason why venting from the end of a range hood wouldn't work. If you don't feel confident modifying it yourself anyone who installs sheet metal ducts for heating and air conditioning systems can either do the modifications or make a custom hood.
