can you damage your bicycle by transporting in truck bed?

I have a road bike but do not have a truck bed rack. I just put the bicycle on its side in the back of the truck.

I guess anything can happen, but I put a lot more impact, damage, and risk on a bike riding it, that I would ever imagine it getting in a sissy mobile.

well if you put padding around it and strap it down so it cant move around and hit the sides of the bed it should be good
