Can you explain to me how to upgrade my phone with T-Mobile?

I have a specific question...

My mom and I are on a family plan... I have a BlackBerry with internet and she just has a basic phone. My phone isn't working very well and I want to get a new one but I need to wait a few more months to upgrade and without the upgrade, the phone is very expensive.

Since she is able to upgrade right now, could she get a BlackBerry and then give it to me and I put my SIM card in? Will there be extra charges on the monthly bill?

I just need to know if I could use the phone she gets with an upgrade and still have internet etc. and she still keeps her basic phone with no extra charges. Thanks.
 
She can use her upgrade and you can move your SIM into the new phone and start using it.

However, the new phone will require a data plan. So, she'll have to pay to have a data plan (at least $15) on her line, even if she doesn't use it, on top of the existing plan. If she already had a data plan, then there won't be any new charges.
 
I've done it with my phones. That's the good thing about T mobile, you can just swap the SIM and keep using it.
