Can you get a virus on android?

A few days a go I clicked on a link within yahoo answers and instead of taking me to a page it started to download a file which I didn't accept. Now my phone will do random internet connections and for some strange reason my music player turns itself on an plays a song when I surf the internet, what do I do as I'm only used to cleaning PC software, is it the same thing on an android?
 
Yes, it can happen like a regular computer can get one. There's almost a virus for everything internet or computer-related. The best thing is to look for an app that can block viruses, or be really careful on what you download.
