can you play ps2 games online on the ps3 using wireless internet?

i have the 80gb ps3 and everytime i go to play madden 07 nba 08 nba 2k7 and a few other games online on my ps3 it says there is not ethernet cable connected wich is correct but i have heard people say they can play ps2 games online using wireless on their ps3s but how do i get around the ethernet cable problem?
