I don't remember much about the book, only:-
- The book had a dark cover
- The main character (female) fell in love with a character named Mario, I'm pretty sure she wrote letters to him
- She was living in a dark house, either alone or with an older male (I think)
- In the house there were a set of 'Hear no/See no/Speak no evil' Monkeys.
