Can you replace the blueray drive in a playstation 3?

The drive stop working it won't read any disks, but the rest of the unit is fine. I was'nt sure if it could be replaced & if this is a common problem.
 
If the PS3 stopped reading disks you need to send it to Sony. If the PS3 is still under the 1 year warranty Sony will do any repairs or replace the PS3 for free.

I've had my PS3 since Dec. 2006, and my PS3 has never had such problems though. I'm guessing that you probably have the 40GB model.
