Can you suggest some very interesting topic for a term paper?

I am in my fourth year of High School and one of our requirements is to write a term or research paper on a certain topic.

Our teacher disallowed us to talk about abstract things like feelings and emotion.

Can you guys help me out to think of a topic which are considerably easy to find in books in the libraries since we are only allowed to research using books. With a minimum of 10 references.

And since it is in the library, I think the topic should be contained in an encyclopedia so I guess recent issues are rather hard to find.

I'm pretty much open for any ideas except wars, long long history, literature, specific people (like a famous artist or some sort) x)

I would research Route 66, or the Lincoln Highway. Other interesting routes to study are the Santa Fe Trail, the Oregon Trail, or the community in which you live. The public libraries will usually have more books available on such things as Route 66, or the Lincoln Highway.
