Can you switch cellphone providers?

I recently bought a droid x on ebay. The phone was originally on a verizon plan. However I can only use a prepaid plan because of my bad credit. I'm not happy with verizon prepaid plans because of their lack of data plans that suit me, Namely being able to use the phone as a wifi hotspot. Since the phone was originally set up to be used with verizon, Can I switch it to another provider?
 
Well anything can be done but the cost to move that to sprint (other CDMA) would be more then just asking sorry man I wont wast time telling you why but no it can't. The only way would be if it has a SIM card (some verizon phones do) You are going to have the same credit check at any cell phone provider you might want to look in to buying a used EVO 4G there cheep nice & sprint is much less then Verizon) I have a friend that pays $50 a month for unlimited everything (grandfathered in) you will get the same for around $70
