can you use an android phone without internet?

i just recently bought a tmobile cliq & i guess i cant use it without internet so is that true????

It is up to T-mobile.
For example, AT&T forces all iphone users to buy a data plan ($30/month). T-mobile may have a similar plan. That's one way to subsidite the high cost of Smart phones. You either pay full price ($300+ and no plan) or $99 + data plan.
