It seems you can definitely watch videos (and similarly view pictures or listen to audio files) if they are stored locally on the PS3's hard disk, or if they are connected via a USB hard disk, but I would like to keep my collection on a PC on my LAN so that the multimedia is available to other devices on the network as well as the PS3.
