cannot send picture message to email address from Nokia 6133 cellphone?

I can't send it to an email address. my phone only allows me to put in number in the 'to' part of the message not letters or other characters. . I called tmobile and the guys said hit the pound sign but that didn't work and his phone didn't work either. I then tried to add the email to the contact list and do it that way but everytime i tried to choose that contact the email choice disappeared.
