Can't get bluetooth headset to pair with Dash 3G?

I have a motorola H500 from about 5 or 6 years ago and another bluetooth ear piece from about 4 years ago. (I don't know the name of it) I tried both of them on my dad's phone, the Samsung T249 and the 4 year old worked perfectly. The H500 didn't though. I figured since my dads phone was brand new and just came out a year ago, the ear piece would work with the Dash 3G, which came out about 2 years ago...but i can't get it to work!!! Also, I have 2 wired headsets from old motorola phones I used to use. They worked with my Dash but I can't get them to work with my Dash 3G!!!! WHATS WRONG!!!??
