dystopian future? I am trying to remember the title of a book I read when I was younger, any help would be appreciated.
Its a young adult fiction book set in a dystopian future. The story starts out with the main character taking the final exam at a school to find out where he will be placed in life. If I remember correctly, there are three social classes, the poor, the middle class, and an upper class I believe were called the techs. The character gets a near perfect score and qualifies for the upper class. One of the school administrators is furious about this and threatens to charge him with high treason but doesn't.
The character then goes to live in the place with the other upper class but ends up running away. He acquires a motorcycle (possibly a yellow Yamaha?) and drives it through the check point into the land where the poor class live. He meets a girl and they leave the crime riddled underclass city and ride his motorcycle out into the country side.
At some point they pass through an old game reserve with automated turret gun defenses and land mines that are placed too close together.
Eventually they settle down in a simple town and the main guy uncovers how there is a group of people preying on the simple folk and have listening devices everywhere and listen to the simple folks lives for entertainment. Im really fuzzy on the ending but I think the girls gets pregnant and he ends up returning to the place he ran away from.
