An accident on the Hume Highway south of Sydney raises my question of whether large trucks and family sized cars can (and should) co-exist on major roads. Three people, all from the same family were killed when their car was crushed by a prime mover that crossed to the wrong side of the highway.

The B-double was travelling south on the divided Hume Highway when it veered on to the median strip and crossed to the wrong side of the highway. It crashed head on into the northbound car, crushing the car and killing the three passengers.

In another recent similar tragic circumstance - a small car needed to stop suddenly when a ladder fell off the roof of a vehicle in front of it, but the large 34 wheel truck following the small car had no hope of stopping. Result - a crushed small car ~ 2 people dead.

Perhaps we, and many other countries where large trucks are a threat to our driving safely, should adopt the Beijing attitude of banning all these types of trucks on specific roads during daylight hours?
I'm not silly enough to think that accidents ONLY happen during the day, but .......................
There's always 1 idiot who doesn't understand the question. What a shame he uses a Ford avatar :-(
