As each day goes by, and more and more money is changing hands in online worlds, governments get closer and closer to stepping in and demanding a piece of the pie. As they do. In the US, that day's just gotten a lot closer. Maybe even next month.
Dan Miller, a senior economist with the Congress' Joint Economic Committee, has said Congress' report on the taxation of virtual goods should be released within the month. There's no word on which way they're going to lean, but if it doesn't recommend some kind of move toward taxing virtual income, I'll go to a hat store, buy the fanciest hat on the rack and eat it right there on the spot.
