i have a four year old laptop. my cd/dvd drive is now working improperly. sometimes when i am watching a dvd, the driver is automatically opening up. sometimes, it is not opening even if i try to press the eject button many times. another thing, any burning program is not working. is it a program problem or is it a technical problem? as far as i know, the problem occurs when i uninstalled CYBERLINK video editor. any help? do reformatting can solve my problem?

If you have the reinstilation DVD/CD for your computer then try and reinstal the whole computer. However, this will delete all of your settings and files so back them up if you need them. If that dosent work then it is a technical problem and you can but a new drive online for your specific computer or just buy a new computer.

The fact that you think it happened after changing software on the computer indicates it is a software problem. Did the Cyberlink software have any direct connection to the CD drive?

However, because the laptop is 4 years old, it could be a hardware problem.

Can you boot into the bios settings, and then see if the problem opening the drive exists there? If it does, its a hardware problem.

You could also try running Linux live cd, and see if the problem occurs whilst using it too, which would mean a hardware problem.

An easier option now though, would be to try uninstalling the dvd drive's driver, and letting windows reinstall it. I am sure you don't want to format, so try to rule out these things first.
