Ok so here is the deal, About 4-5 months ago my pc would not turn on because of a bad virus. So my cousin said he'll fix it for me by cleaning and restoring my computer. He had a copy of Windows XP so my computer was working again and quite fast. After that and up until now i hadn't really used the cd drive. So a couple of weeks ago i keep getting messages from my antivirus program eset that i have a ramnit.A trojan so i took the pc back to my cousin but he couldn't do it coz the windows xp cd couldn't be read by drive. I took it home trying to fix it myself. When i go into "my computer" the D:/ drive is there. When i insert a cd the green light flashes continuously and when i click on the D drive it opens but no files. Sometimes on the cursor/hour glass a little cd image appears and goes off. I've tried nearly all my cds/dvds at home and the same thing happens. I didn't realise that the windows automatic updates was switched off so i switched it back on and now it's telling me my windows is not genuine and i may be a victim of counterfiet. Which now i'm thinking my cousin didn't put a genuine windows xp cd in. My nephew took out his cd drive and put it into my system to see if he could clean my computer by that using his Dell OP cd. It goes through all the files but then i get a blue screen giving me a long error message (can't remember what it says) but then we'd get a blue screen message saying to insert a correct cd or something like that. So again couldn't do it. Could someone please please help me. Someone mentioned restore Factory settings, what does that do and would that help? If i did that wouldn't i still need to use the windows xp OP cd?
