I've recently seen the movie Chaplin, about the life of Charles Chaplin, and have now got a new-found respect for the man. I'm aware he's made & produced an awefully large amount of movies, so I can't very well go out and buy all of them. As such, I'd appreciate a shortlist of the movies you think have been most successful, and have been the most influential points in his career. I'm not big on the "talkies" as they were called back then, as I feel it sort of ruins the magic of the character of the Tramp. Thanks!

I agree that the silents are better~

I love 'Mabel's Strange Predicament' (1914, Dir. Henry Lehrman and Mack Sennett)

And you have to watch 'Modern Times' (1936), it was written by, directed by AND starring Mr. Chaplin. It's a silent film but uses sound in a very interesting way to enhance the action.

I also think you should watch 'The Great Dictator' (1940), although it is a talkie, it is one of Chaplin's most celebrated films. At the time it was considered very edgy, in it's portrayal and parody of Nazism and Adolf Hitler. Chaplin wrote, directed and starred as a fictional dictator.

Hope this helps xo
