cheap couples vacation in driving distance (8 hours or so) from Michigan?

I live in Michigan and I want to take my girlfriend on a nice vacation without breaking the bank, i am willing to drive to another state, as long as it is not to far away. We just want to get away and relax. Also we plan on going in Dec. so nothing like sitting on a beach.
