My daughter is 3 1/2. Her birth father (who lives 4 states away) has chosen to never be involved. I didn't know enough about him to put him on the birth certificate and lost contact with him when I was 7 months pregnant so I couldn't just call him and ask him what his SSN was. Last October I found his myspace page and saw that he was dating some single mother helping with her 3 1/2 year old son. I thought "if he can take care of someone else's responsibility he can sure take care of his own" and filed for support.
The thing is that I've been dating someone for about 1 1/2 years now and he adores my daughter as if she was his own. We want to get married someday and he wants to adopt my daughter. He is like a father to her already and she treats him as such.
Since I filed already for support, should I just let it go and collect the money secretly (because the bf isn't for me having any contact at this point with the birth father), or should I cancel it all together. I don't want or need any involvement from this guy. If, when my daughter is old enough and wants to know about him and find him, we certainly will. However, I don't need his help raising my daughter.
What would you do in this situation?
