Christians, does God protect you when evil is afoot?

.. i was out today hanging with my chickens and a young hawk flew in at them and they were about 20' away from me .. they all ran behind me and just snuggled in close around my legs as the hawk swooped out and up into a tree ... is God a presence like that in your life?
 
He is my bridge over troubled waters, my refuge and my strength.

Psa 62:7 In God [is] my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, [and] my refuge, [is] in God.

Jer 16:19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction
 
I saw a lot of people die back in 1969. I knew some of them. Some were 'christian', some weren't. When they got hit, they bled and died, without regard to their religion or lack thereof.
