The Gospel of Matthew begins by listing the lineage from Abraham all the way down to Joseph, Jesus's father:

The intention here is to show that Jesus was descended from Abraham. However, Joseph was not Jesus's father, the "Holy Spirit" was, right? So isn't this entire passage pointless?
Furthermore, other passages in the New Testament say that Jesus was descended from David and Abraham:
2 Timothy 2:8 "Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David."
Hebrews 2:16 "For verily he [Jesus] took not on him the nature of angels, but he took on him the seed of Abraham."
Revelation 22:16 "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David."
How do you explain this?
