...Jesus Christ? I am a non-christian trying to gain insight into modern christianity. Jesus Christ is a personal hero of mine, but I fail to see how modern christianity reflects his teachings. In a nutshell, the historical Jesus Christ was a very liberal Jew, who preached one loving god. Please explain how these teaching were interpreted into modern day christianity which practices homophobia, bigotry, and an utter lack of respect for those that dont share their beliefs.

oh not to worry. Christians are compiling a new "Conservative's Bible" that reinterprets the Bible, discarding the current version's liberal bias and using wording that is more conducive to modern American Christianity. IOW, no more liberal hippy socialistic Jesus. Jesus is a dog eat dog neoCon capitalist social Darwinian now and the Word of God needs to reflect Jesus' change in philosophy..

you are making a statement albeit lightly veiled . You have no hope ??

@Yosef: That's what christianity his been since the beginning.

Dude, look at the history of christianity. It's been nothing but wars, inquisitions, witch hunts, and the like. Plus, if you read the Bible, you'll see that Yahweh is a sadist as well.

I AM A HOPELESS PIECE OF FLESH!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol

And I would say....there is no difference, they still have "sinned" and will go to "Hell" no matter what lifestyle they got or how many times they went to church....."god" is supposed to forgive "everything", and there is a "Hell", people GIVE ME A LONG BREAK! AND EXPLANATION! HOW IN THE FUDGING PART OF A HAIRY COMPUTER CAN THAT HAPPEN?!

If you are religious please answer, cuz i dont get that!

Jesus also threw a temper tantrum in the temple, taking a whip to people (yes, he actually whipped them - regardless of provocation, I don't find that to be in keeping with the all loving, compassionate man some want to reinvent him to be). He was known to be rude and even cruel at times. There are also quotes by him in which he shows that the god he believed in was neither entirely benevolent nor loving, sometimes even cruel. He also believed in hell.

Jesus also said that if people did not believe in him, then when they came before him to be judged by God, he would turn away from them, in effect, condemning them to hell. In fact, Jesus could be very intolerant. Yes, he preached a loving god, he also preached a wrathful, vengeful god.

And if you are going to call him your hero, get his name right. Christ is not his last name. It is a title, meaning "anointed by god" or messiah. If you don't believe that he is the messiah, then you shouldn't be titling him so.

Jesus would not like christians of today.
they dont practice what they preach, its full oh hypocrisy and has become a business.

The teachings of Christendom, such as trinity and hellfire, are not representative of true Christianity as espoused by Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ was Jewish, but he instituted a new covenant.

The bible assures us that Jehovah God and Christ Jesus love people, but do not tolerate PRACTICES not in harmony with righteousness.

NWT

(John 8:32) and YOU will know the truth, and the truth will set YOU free.”

(John 13:34-35) I am giving YOU a new commandment, that YOU love one another; just as I have loved YOU, that YOU also love one another. 35*By this all will know that YOU are my disciples, if YOU have love among yourselves.”

(Jeremiah 31:31-33) “Look! There are days coming,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I will conclude with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah a new covenant; 32*not one like the covenant that I concluded with their forefathers in the day of my taking hold of their hand to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt, ‘which covenant of mine they themselves broke, although I myself had husbandly ownership of them,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.” 33*“For this is the covenant that I shall conclude with the house of Israel after those days,” is the utterance of Jehovah. “I will put my law within them, and in their heart I shall write it. And I will become their God, and they themselves will become my people.”

(Galatians 3:24-25) .*.*.Consequently the Law has become our tutor leading to Christ, that we might be declared righteous due to faith. 25*But now that the faith has arrived, we are no longer under a tutor.

(John 3:16) “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.

(1 Corinthians 6:9-11) What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, 10*nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom. 11*And yet that is what some of YOU were. But YOU have been washed clean, but YOU have been sanctified, but YOU have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.
