Citroen C5 Headlights on constantly, auto lights dont deactivate!!!?

Can anyone help me?! I have recently bought a Citroen C5 (52 reg) The headlights are on constantly and wont deactivate as per instructions in the manual. More worryingly is that the only time they do go off is when I try to use the full beam setting. When I do this ALL of the lights go out for a few seconds then come back on again, DANGEROUS. Your help would be appreciated, thanks.
 
I had a similar problem on my 2003 C5 - my auto headlamps would be on all of the time, day or night, and switching the feature off by holding down the left hand stalk button didn't work either.

The fault on mine was caused by a faulty COM2000 unit (the unit that is inside the stalks surrounding the steering wheel). A new one has solved the problem.

Warning - they are not cheap!
