I need to clone my crashed hard drive to a new one. I have a 500GB external hard drive.
Is there any way I can create a backup cloned copy of my crashed hard drive on my 500GB external hard drive? My 500GB external already has 200GB worth of data on it (the remaining 300GB is large enough for my crashed hard drive).
I just want to make sure I won't lose any information on my 500GB that 's already up there.
I want to do all of this through my laptop. Put the crashed hard drive in the laptop, hook the external up using USB and back it up. Then replace the crashed hard drive with the new one and copy back to it with the external.
Will the laptop be able to read the USB port with the external attached in order to recieve the back up cloned copy?
What program will I need to do this?
