When you spend as much time around geordies and assorted other northerner's not to mention all the other Brit's in Hong Kong... yeah the sense of humour grows on you and you learn how to survive a wind up or two.

I'm a tea man myself. I only usually drink coffee when I take girls to the local coffee shop for some pre game sustinence .

I like the smell of coffee just like I like the smell of Baileys but both taste like feet soaked in urine or something similar or so I'd imagine... Erm...

I agree that coffee often smells a lot better than it tastes, but that is simply because 96.54% of all cups of coffee are made by muppets who don't have the first idea what they are doing. It's usually just a milky drink with a vaguely coffee-ish taste.

Have a proper cup of coffee and you'll notice a huge difference.

This phenomena ranks right up there with some of earliest and biggest let downs one can have as a kid. You smell the coffee your parents make in the morning - in my case back in the day when percolator pots were de riguer for making a morning cup. So as a kid it's rather enticing... only to be bitch-slapped by reality when you get your first taste.

I get the urge to punch out every counter person at a coffee shop that asks me if I wan't whipped cream on top of my cafe mocha. Sadly, the cafe mocha of today has nothing to do with a coffee bean variety that comes from Mocha, a port city of Yemen.

Americans somehow feel the need to add crap Hershey's chocolate flavoured syrup to the thing and then figure they are sussed when they top it with even crapper UHT non-dairy whipping foam.

I'm actually quite suprised there has never been a Starbucks massacre.

We actually get better coffee out of a machine at work than I've ever had in Starberks. In fact, the coffee we get from the machine at work is better than I've had in a hell of a lot of restaurants.

It's a very special machine.

Everyone else has been mincing around with a nice large latte bowl or an espresso demi-tasse and I here I've been freebasing my coffee from a small glass pipe.

Hmmmmmm, time for coffee methinks. You know, my coffee maker went out about a month ago and in a fit of "saving electricity" I decided to get a French press (with the added bonus of never having to replace it for unknown broken bits). And it actually makes the best coffee I have ever had. Who knew? Well, the French I guess. Silly froggies.

ah yeah - the French Press is a pretty good piece of coffee gear to have. You can get one that accomodates several cups or one that just makes only one. I've got several and they always work even when the espresso machine is acting up.

I didn't even realise that anything else was required for making coffee! (Except espresso).

All right slip, enlighten us. You seem to be a big coffee man. What beans do you use? Do you roast them yourself? I want your knowledge.

The worst thing are coffee snobs who pretend they know all about this or that freakin bean.

Not you guys on MAP but I've seen them here at coffee chains. Argh!
