Comcast today announced that it is rolling out its AnyPlay device, which enables you to stream live TV on your iPad. In order to be able to do so you have to be subscribed to the Xfinity TV service, and also have Comcast’s Xfinity TV app installed on your iPad. Once you have that, you can use the AnyPlay device to watch the channels that are included in your linear channel subscription via the Xfinity TV app on your iPad(ipad tips: convert video to ipad). In other words, if someone is watching a program on the main TV in the living room, you can watch another programme elsewhere in the house on your iPad.

According to Comcast’s blog, the AnyPlay works like a regular set top box, only instead of sending the incoming programming to a TV, it sends it to your Wi-Fi router, which then sends the secure video signal to your iPad(ipad video converter)or other tablet. The only stipulation is that your iPad is within range of your wireless router.

Best not to get too excited yet though, as it seems to be a very slow rollout, as so far Comcast is only making AnyPlay available to Xfinity HD Triple Play customers in parts of Denver and Nashville, at no extra cost. They do say that they will be adding many more markets in the coming months though.
