I'm looking for an affordable compact truck that gets good gas mileage, and that would be easy to modify and customize should the whim (and money) strike me sometime down the road. So far, the truck I like best is the Chevy S-10. Any suggestions?

The S-10 is a good choice because U can modify with many avaliable parts and engines. The s-10 looks really great with the spoiler package and U can do all the work yourself.. many sites on the web about the s-10.. have a good day.

the most bang for your buck compact would be a toyota tacoma or pickup.

they last a LONG time and are fairly easy to mod, many are given solid axle swaps and turned into rock crawlers. they look good lifted, and have good road manners.

or i suggest a ford ranger if you're for the american market

toyota pickups 1979-1994 (for a decent one) cost as low as $1500.

toyota tacoma 1995-present start at about $3500-$4000

both are available in 4 cylinder or v6 models, the 22re 4 cylinder being one of toyota's most used and most reliable engines.
