Computer doesn't recognize the dvd-r as a rewriteable or recordable disc?

I used the disc earlier today to save a picture to it, it said i saved it as a usb sorta format. I tried using the disc a little while ago today and i want to burn a video i made. I used windows dvd maker. it says that the disc inserted is not recordable or rewriteable. I also deleted the picture from earlier today also. This is my last dvd that i have left and i don't want to go to the store and buy more.
