Computer not detecting Samsung Camcorder through firewire cable?

I have it plugged in, and I turn it on and turn it to the player mode, and its not even detecting it. No "dun DUN" like when it usually detects USB, and it doesnt show up in the computer folder. And I don't remember there being any software coming with the camcorder. Anyone know the problem?
