switching to 169.254.127.114? I am having a problem with picking up the IP Address from a Charter Internet Cable Modem. This has been a problem for over a week. Prior to this past week the computer was hooked to this Charter Modem and worked fine. Now for the past week this Compact Desktop has not been able to establish a connection and pick up the IP address from the Modem. It keeps switching to an IP address of 169.254.127.114, but will not connect to the interent. The IP Address should be 71.81.xx.xx. I know this because my lap top will hook up and use the Charter Internet fine. I have went through and used ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew, even unhooking the cable and getting the system to establish a connection with the modem then trying hooking up the cable and trying to get it to establish a connection, but it will not.

The interesting part is this. I have brought the computer to my house, hooked it up to my Centurytel DSL and it works fine. I have also complete restored the Compact computer to original configuration blowing away everything that was on it. Still experiencing the same problem. The computer will not establish a connection through the Charter Modem, but two other laptops have no problem establishing the connection. I usually have to unplug the modem after switching from computers, but the laptops pick up the IP and the Compact (with ADM processor) will not establish the connection.

Does anybody have any suggestions or know what might be causing this?
