I'm looking for a low-priced car, and found a 2000 BMW 32I online. It has 98,000 miles, a 5-6 inch dent from an 05 accident, a few dents on the hood, but is otherwise in good condition. It's being sold at a dealer as-is for $5,000; here's where my question comes in. I've looked up similar cars and they've been going for $7,000 and upwards. I know this one has damage, but can it really be that much off it? I went for a test drive and the salesman said it was a trade-in and that because of the damage it wasn't worth it to fix it just to sell it for another $1,000.
Does this sound sketchy? Should I write this off as too good to be true? I mean, driving it was nice, and the car itself looks alright, but I really don't know much about the mechanics of a car, so the transmission could be dying as we speak for all I know. Basically, is this worth it to buy?
P.S. Also, is it true that BMWs (especially this one in particular) cost a good deal more to repair than any other similarly sized/built sedan?
