Copyright an iPhone Application?

I have made an app and was going to submit it. I saw that you NEED a copyright to submit it. Those of you who have done so, what is the process like? Can you apply and then submit it to the app store (or do you have to wait the 5 months for them to register it)? How do I send the file to the copyright office? How do I save the file for them?
