Could a virus/malware affect the VGA input on a PC?

Two PCs in my household have monitor issues. The desktop powers up, then the screen flashes "No VGA input" and "No DVI input" and then goes to sleep. It has a VGA connection, which is plugged in correctly. (Unfortunately I don't have the means to test the cable with a different monitor or the monitor with different cables.) The laptop powers up, and just displays a black gray/black screen. Nothing. These problems cropped up on the same day. The only connection I can see, apart from the fact that they're both old, is that they share an internet connection -- could malware or spyware be responsible for this seeming hardware issue?
