Could anyone recommend some sci-fi/fantasy books?

I've got some free time coming up and I need to relax but if anyone's been to a books store or library lately they will know the chances of picking a good book off the shelf.

I like:
Dragon's Bait
The Dragonback series
Spiderwick Chronicles
Goblin wood
Island of Aunts
The Abhorsen Trilogy
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers stone (I've read the whole series but I didn't like the rest of the series as much as the first book.)

Stand alone books are preferable, but feel free to mention series too. In general I prefer young adult books because even the dark ones tend to have a slightly lighter tone.

Little brother by Cory Doctorow
Hunger games by Suzanne Collins
Www:wake by Robert J. Sawyer

The Princess Bride is a wonderful novel. Filled with everything. The Hobbit is short and easy to read, though The Lord of the Rings is superior.

The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis

1. Out of the Silent Planet
2. Perelandra
3. That Hideous Strength

mortal instruments series
the great tree of avalon series
percy jackson
the hunger games
the sisters grimm
the beautiful creatures series
eon series
pendragon

hope i helped!
