Could I get away with using a Toyota Prius as a taxi in Northern California?

Wait til those 'progressives' decide to collectivize your business for the good of the people....
 
I would be the first to use that small a car for a taxi in this coastal town, but I know the Prius is used as a taxi in other parts of the country. It's a pretty progressive town we have here, and I think it might fly. It's getting kind of hard to keep gas in the old Crown Vic...
What do you think? Would it fly with the average American customer?
